If you’re like me, sunscreen was not always a priority when you were younger and so you wake up one day with sun/age spots that seemingly appear overnight. They gradually seem to start multiplying and you are left wondering with all the treatments and products out there, where do I start?
The very first thing you should do is invest in a quality sunscreen and start using it daily. Add it into your daily routine, rain or shine, just make it a daily habit. My preference is one with Zinc Oxide. It’s healing for the skin and great post procedure. It provides complete UVB/UVA protection and is a safe sunscreen ingredient. Below are some of my personal favorites.
Second, seek out a Licensed Aesthetician in your area for your next step. They will be able to properly analyze your skin and help you determine which treatments and procedures will work best for your skin type. One of my most popular treatments is our Lumecca IPL Laser, seen in the picture below. It’s not for every skin type but it can work on several and be a great solution to target brown/red spots. The pigmented lesions flake off within 10 days. The Lumecca technology is in a class of it’s own and works more quickly than any other IPL that I have worked with. You can typically achieve optimal results within 3 treatments with the Lumecca, whereas with other technology I have tried it tends to take 6-8 treatments.

There are also some great chemical peels and skincare products that target hyperpigmentation and dark spots beautifully. One of my favorites for my melasma clients is our Advanced Corrective Peel with SkinCeuticals. It typically takes 3-4 to achieve optimal results and there is some downtime associated with the peel because of peeling but the results are worth it!
As always, it is so important to have a skincare consult before booking a treatment to make sure that this is the right treatment and/or product for you. Skincare really isn’t a one size fits all and different skin types and issues require different approaches to achieve your best skin health.
